Great day at Future Challenger Meet 1
09 Oct 2023
The season ‘proper’ got underway for the younger competitors in #teamlarne on 8th October. A PTL on Saturday afternoon (a very close lose to Portadown) followed by the 1st of this season's Future Challenger series in Craigavon.
9 Swimmers aged 10 – 12 made the trip to Craigavon to compete across 15 events. 20 individual swims resulted in 11 Personal Bests and 8 new swims, which was an incredible return from these guys for their first meet of the year!
Thanks to the amazing foresight of a forward thinking coach in Ulster (LOL), in these meets medals are awarded based on US motivational times. These times are a standardized set of times across every event from ages 10 – 18. The benefit of using these is that the standards move up with these swimmers so there is an objective measure of improvement from year to year.
Congratulations to each and every one of you but special mentions go out to:
Annabella Cole – Silver 200 IM & 100 BC
Megan O'Mahony – Bronze 200 IM & 100 BC
Oliver Niblock – Bronze 200 IM & 100 BC
Hanna Rose Aiken – Bronze 50 Fly
Evan McFarlane – Bronze 100, BC 100 IM, & 50 BC
Remember this is just the start of the season. The most important thing is that we learn from each meet and training session and look to swim better next time.
