Welcome to our 'Learn to Swim' Programme

Larne Junior Swimming Club

 Larne Swimming Club is unique in that we also have a junior programme called 'Learn to Swim', which is dedicated to teaching individuals to swim confidently and safely.

Lessons are held at Larne Leisure Centre, 28 Tower Road, Larne BT40 1AB.

At Larne Junior Swimming Club, we love everything about swimming, and you can learn to love it too by joining our Learn to Swim programme!

Enrolment is open year round from the age of 3 (Ducklings) or age 4 (Learn to Swim). There are six formal levels with specific competencies to complete. After Level 6 has been achieved, children are invited to have a trial for the Larne Swimming Club's Junior Academy programme where swimmers are taught higher level swimming skills and are invited to participate in fun and skill-appropriate competitive galas.

Lesson overview

The overview provided below is a summary of the basic skills required at each level. Pupils are assessed on a continual basis and will be moved up according to when they perform skills confidently and regularly. We value each child's rate of individual progression, and will help him/her achieve their goals.

Ducklings

Pool safety Stage 0 of submersion, safe entry to pool, star float, push and glide, flutter kick (stationary)

Level 1

Stage 1 of submersion stage, perform jump into pool, pencil float, rolling floats, push and glide (travel), flutter kick (travel)  

Level 2

Stage 2 of submersion (fully), push and glide (front and back) with various kicks, front crawl (FC) and back crawl (BC) components, surface dives, doggy paddle (travel)  

Level 3

Flutter kick (front and back) without aids, FC, BC, sculling, streamline components

Level 4

Flutter kick (front and back) without aids (longer), FC, BC, learn Butterly (BF)
